IF YOU KNOW WHAT TO LOOK FOR...

DS, glass enamel, high grade dial for grades 187, 189 etc. Slightly different from Sangamo.

16 size grade 189 hunter movement circa 1900. Total production 580.

If you didn't know to look for all the signs of quality, this more or less unmarked watch might not attract you attention in the local pawn shop. But if you know what you are looking for, and go over your mental check list...

  • High grade glass enamel DS dial
  • Bright ruby jewels and the "ruby jewels" marking.
  • Polished gold jewel settings.
  • Special chamfering and finishing on the movement.

...you might be able to pick up this prize, where another collector would let it go. This is one of the highest grade watches ever manufactured by Illinois. The finish on the underside of parts is just about as nice as on the top. Don't let if get away!
