PRIVATE LABELS

18 size, glass enamel dial marked "Brown's Jewelry Store, Hannibal, Mo.".

18 size, 21 jewel, Bunn Special hunter (circa 1895) marked "Brown's Special, Hannibal, Mo."

The Historical Society in Hannibal tells me that Brown's Jewelry existed in Hannibal from the late 1880s until the early part of the 1900s. They say that Brown was a watch inspector for the Chicago and Alton Railroad, although it is not clear that the this road went directly through Hannibal.

There is a photo of a sister to this watch on page 263 of Illinois Watch Company, Encyclopedia and Price Guide. It is from the same run as the above example but obviously has the later, "bright spotted" damascening pattern. Wouldn't it be great to know how many of these watches Brown ordered and what they all looked like?
