| This very early private label 18 size Elgin, gr.58 was made circa 1872 for E. H. Sweetser of Danville, Illinois. Sweetser was a jeweler and early Railroad Watch Inspector. The key wind, key set movement has 15 jewels and was “Railroad Grade” at the time. Interestingly, this movement is listed as the first in a run of 10 gr.55s. It obviously belongs at the end of the previous run of 10 gr.58s. Also note the beautiful cutout on the balance cock, and the solid rose gold balance wheel. | |||
