ILLINOIS WATCH CO. - SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS 18 Size Grade Bunn Special Circa 1895" I am featuring this watch from my own collection, because it has a couple of features which make it different from the normal run of the mill 18s Bunn Special hunter. First, it features a Chalmers Patent Regulator, which, although not hard to find on 18s Illinois watches, is uncommon on the Bunn and Bunn Special grades. These Grades came into production at the end of the company's use of this regulator, and nobody really knows how many were made this way. The second odd feature is the dial. I have only seen one other dial like this one, which has the "Illinois Watch Co." in gothic script as well as the numerals in the gothic type, but does not have the red 5 minute markers. I have many of a similar dial, with almost the same "Illinois Watch Co." but more plain numerals with no red markers, but, like I said, only one other exactly like this. I am sure there are more dials like this so if you have one, please click below to e-mail me. You can see the normal version of this movement, with the standard regulator, by CLICKING HERE. You can see the standard Bunn dials by CLICKING HERE. You will note that the dial in the upper left of this page of Bunn dials is similar, but with differend numerals, and the one in the upper left is the same, but with red 5 minute markers. I wish the web would efficiently let me show you a more high resolution photo of this watch, because it is about as near to mint as a 100+ year old watch can get. The only thing I am suspicious of are the hands, which are not the standard Bunn hands, but they don't appear to have been modified, so I am going to leave them as is. The watch is housed in a very near mint, Keystone GF engine turned hunter case, with no extra screw marks. If you have a watch you would like to submit for Watch Of The Month, or have any information on other interesting 18s Bunn Special Hunters click below to... |
