THIS IS THE APRIL, 2001 interstatetime.com "WATCH OF THE MONTH"

THIS PAGE COULD FEATURE YOUR WATCH!!!

Every month we will pick a watch, submitted by one of our viewers, to be "Watch of the Month". "Watch of the Month" submissions should be a vintage or antique American pocket watch. They don't have to be rare or expensive, just interesting (this should give you lots of options). If you have a watch you would like to submit CLICK HERE to go to the "submission rules" page. THESE WATCHES ARE NOT FOR SALE!

ILLINOIS WATCH CO. - SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS

Model 5, Grade Bunn, 17 Jewel Hunter

This 17 jewel Bunn hunter was made in 1895 as a private label for G. R. Evans of Kendall Wisconsin. Evans was probably a jeweler and railroad watch inspector. Kendall is a small town, East of La Crosse, and North West of Madison, Wisconsin which was a stop on the Chicago and Northwestern Railway.

This watch SN 1292802 comes from a run of 200 watches, from which I have a factory marked example which is SN 1292735. The factory marked movement looks exactly the same, except the barrel bridge is marked "Bunn Springfield, Ill." The beautiful "morning glory hands" are typical of high grade Illinois private labels, and the glass enamel dial is typical of a Bunn grade.

There are 1650 serial numbers listed for this 17j Bunn grade hunter in the first pattern. I have seen very few of them marked as private labels. If you have seen others, I would love to hear from you by e-mail. SEND ME AN E-MAIL.
