ROCKFORD WATCH CO., ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS 21 Jewel 18 Size Grade 950 Open-Face "Indicator" Everyone has seen the Rockford 16 size indicators, the 21 jewel model 655, and the 17 jewel model 665. This is the much less common 18 size 21 jewel, grade 950. Serial number records would seem to indicate that about 200 of these watches could have been made. Judging from the number known to exist at present, it is probable that not all of these were actually produced. The dials on the 16 size Rockford Indicators were notoriously badly made, and are hard to find in mint condition. The 18 size dials seem to hold up better, but this one is about as good as it gets, with a mirror like glass enamel finnish. I think the choice of type style for the 12 in the indicator bit is interesting, as it is different from the other numerals. Rockford does not list production of a 17 jewel 18 size indicator. Rumor of the existence of such a watch, perhaps a prototype, persists. If anyone out there has, or has heard of such a watch, please SEND ME AN E-MAIL. This beautiful watch was submitted as the Interstate Time Watch of the Month by a good friend and fellow collector who wishes to remain anonymous. |
