NASHUA WATCH COMPANY - NASHUA, NH Approximately 20 Size, 19 jewels, Circa 1860 The above watch is an extremely rare example from one of Americas most important watch companies. The Nashua Watch Company of Nashua, NH was not in business for very long (1859-1862), but it was responsible for some crucially important innovations and patents in watch design and watch making machinery. It also employed some of the best and the brightest minds and hands in the watch making business. Many of these watch making pioneers came to Nashua from careers Waltham, and went back to Waltham when Nashua was taken over and incorporated into Waltham as its high grade and experimental division in 1862. One of these watch making giants was Charles Moseley, who's name appears in many chapters of American watch making history. This was his watch. It is a unique, early serial number 19 jewel version, which features a Moseley designed, innovative micrometer regulator. For this incredible Watch of the Month we need to thank Jon Hanson. Jon has once again opened up his incomparable collection, and given us all the chance to see and learn more about the early history of watch making in the good old USA. Many important early watches, like this one, will be on display for the first time ever at the NAWCC Mid-America Regional in Fort Wayne, Indiana on October 18 and 19 of 2002. Mid-America will also host a lecture and panel discussion on early American watches, featuring Mr. Hanson and several other top experts in the field. All of this will be free to registered attendees at Mid-America. To register for Mid-America, and experience this once in a lifetime opportunity, please go to http://www.indianachapter18.org/MidAmRegForm.htm to download the registration form or email me at johncote@interstatetime.com with any questions. If you have an interesting American pocket watch you would like to submit as Interstatetime Watch of the Month, and please don't think it has to be as sexy as February's or this one..... |
